If I vanished, you'd find me at the local, corner table, decent light, a Guardian and a Guinness. I'm not there to socialise really, just to exist quietly among people. The ritual matters as much as the drink, the right amount of background noise, careful reading, a polite but firm end to any chat that starts up. It's solitude with texture, not like the sterile quiet of a café. I judge a pub on its Guinness first. And I've got no time for manufactured digital detox spaces, the pub's already doing that job.
