American Psycho sits on a shelf above High Fidelity, in better condition, mostly because I skip the violent parts and just go back for the business card scene, a masterclass in obsessive detail. Different kind of book to Hornby entirely, but the same instinct's in there somewhere, someone caring far too much about the wrong things. Too controversial to read? Listen to the soundtrack instead, featuring Bowie, The Cure, and New Order's True Faith (1987).
