Hello, I’m Nigel.

I combine my experience in strategy, creativity and business to help businesses find clarity. I work with founders, and organisations to untangle brands and make them more relevant, unique and memorable

Brands…

With over 25 years in the creative industry, I’ve worked for leading London design studios, co-founded an award-winning agency, and now work directly with clients.

I’ve won multiple awards for brand transformation, working with businesses as diverse as CitySprint, Cancer Research UK, Soak&Sleep and Radioplayer.

In this short film, I talk about my business, why I’m part of the Federation of Small Businesses, and what drives me to support others. You can also spot me scribbling on walls and pretending to speak on the phone.

When I start working with a new client, I often ask, “What’s your favourite band?” It’s not a trick question or small talk. It’s about emotional connection, the same thing that makes a brand memorable. Everyone can talk about a band that matters to them. The music triggers memories and emotion. But when people talk about their own brand, the feeling often disappears. That’s what brand untangling is all about, helping people rediscover that emotion and express it clearly.

The story so far

With over 25 years in the creative industry, I’ve worked for leading agencies, co-founded my own award-winning studio, and now collaborate directly with businesses — from the small and ambitious to the large and established.

Creative career

Since early in my career I’ve focused on branding. Branding buildings (RICS, the global professional body for the built environment). Branding charities (Crisis, Cancer Research UK). Branding science (QinetiQ, the UK government’s commercial defence technology business). Branding music (ABRSM, the world’s leading provider of music exams). Branding cars (I designed the first ever global standard for the Ford blue oval). Branding digital radio (Radioplayer, a worldwide audio brand partnership between the BBC and Global Radio).

Business partner

As one of the three founding partners of 300million I took on the roles of Managing Director and Strategy Director. The company was recognised as the fastest-growing design business in the UK. We grew to a team of 25 people with £2 million in revenue, winning multiple design awards including a DBA Gold Effectiveness. Our team created Yota, the first commercial 4G telecoms brand, launched in Moscow and later awarded by Google as the most searched brand in Russia. We even found time to release a World Cup football single.

Independent consultant

I now work independently with clients, consultants and creative teams. I’ve continued to win awards for brand transformation, strategy, naming and brand architecture, along with a Which? Award for Soak&Sleep, the bed and bath brand I created. It went from unknown to being higher-rated than John Lewis or Ikea.

I want more businesses to understand the branding process so they’re they have more control. I want to spend more time listening to my vinyl collection rather than just sitting in front of it.
