This week, I had a great conversation with a web designer trying to find clarity in her business.
She mentioned that she sometimes felt the need for an “alter ego” to battle distractions—juggling work, kids, and everything in between. I get it. When things feel overwhelming, the idea of creating a high-energy version of yourself to power through is tempting.
The problem? That kind of thinking can be exhausting.
Instead, I suggested creating a ‘super ego’. You don’t need to fight yourself—you just need to step into the version of you that already exists, the one who knows what they’re doing, without all the background clutter. Kind of like dialling an amp up to 11 for the guitar solo.
Branding works the same way. When a brand tries to be something it’s not—putting on a polished front that doesn’t hold up in reality—people can spot it a mile off.
Authenticity matters. That doesn’t mean showing every crack, but it does mean presenting yourself in a way that’s both appealing and honest.
Are you stepping into a super ego—the most confident version of yourself?
Or are you creating an alter ego to hide the real you?
