It’s that time of year when everyone’s talking about goals, resolutions, and big plans. Everyone has their opinion about setting goals, but here are some of my favourites:
Why wait for January?
It’s cold, wet, and miserable—and honestly, not the most inspiring time to plan your future. You might find inspiration flows better while lying on a beach, sipping a cool cocktail, with the sun on your face.
Why only do it once a year?
You can set goals anytime that suits you. Better yet, revisit and update them regularly. Your business evolves, so why not let your goals evolve with it? Whenever and wherever you set your goals, make them count. And if they don’t feel quite right in January? Change them.
Why only set achievable goals?
My favourite advice comes from High Performance Success Coach; Christina Landon: set an impossible goal, something you believe you can’t achieve. Then, list all the reasons why it feels unachievable and identify the traits of a person who could achieve it. Be that person.
If you’re a January goal-setter, that’s fine—at least you’re doing it, and that’s what matters most. But don’t forget to add accountability to keep you on track.
Here’s my impossible goal (so you can keep me accountable):
Write my book, tentatively titled “Brands and Bands”, before the end of the year—and ensure it is as original and impactful as I know it can be.
Please feel free to share your own goals if you would like some accountability as well.
